Sent by Network Rail, it warned that if the project doesn’t go ahead then there will be three decades of travel misery on the trains, with shutdowns across all major lines every weekend, to relieve pressures on the existing network. There is simply no real alternative if we want to create a world-class rail network that will allow people and businesses - large and small - across the North to thrive. There are voices - including disappointingly some from our region - who are urging the Prime Minister to scrap HS2. It will make a huge difference, just as high speed rail has done in Japan, France, China, Spain and South Korea. There is no reason why a child growing up in Leeds should have fewer opportunities than one in London.
