According to a report by adomonline.com on January 26, 2026, the Vice Chairperson of the Committee and Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, disclosed that intelligence available to the committee indicates that some individuals have encroached on Newmont’s concession to engage in illegal mining. He explained that the illegal activities often lead to fatal accidents and violent confrontations between illegal miners and the mining company.
