Some of you will have heard many figures bounced around - 12 per cent, 16 per cent, $2000 lump sum - that nurses accepted. On the topic of the lump sum, not every nurse received the full $2000 either. This means I was taxed $800 because my lump sum was thrown on top of my wages, pushing me into a heavier tax bracket. I find myself asking, why do I serve this country only to feel cheated and like I'm losing out?
