According to the President’s Media Division, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa stated today (10) that relevant authorities should impose inter-provincial travel restrictions. While these restrictions are expected to continue until 30 May, an exact date as to when these travel restriction will come into effect has not been announced. However, inter-provincial travel will be permitted for certain individuals involved in the operation of food transport trucks, health sector workers and apparel workers. In order to ensure that the lives of citizens are not disrupted while these measures come into effect, the President urged that proper procedures should be followed. This decision by the President to impose provincial travel restrictions comes after today’s decision to spare the country from a total lockdown, given the current Covid-19 situation following a meeting today with the Covid-19 task force and health experts.
