Austin homeowners Michelle Lee, 49, and her husband, John Wallingford, 50, and their two children, watched as the finishing touches were put on their 610-square-foot backyard casita in the city’s historic Hyde Park neighborhood. The one-bathroom contemporary guesthouse came at an added cost: losing the 200-square-foot, tin backyard shed with a peaked roof that the family cherished for its classic Texas style and for providing crucial storage for bikes, outdoor gear and other miscellanea for the active family.
