In the NFL Draft, There’s One Position Teams Usually Get Right


NFL general managers have had a mixed record in recent years when it comes to selecting quarterbacks in the first round of the draft. But there’s one position that they’ve done really well at evaluating: offensive tackle. Tackles are the engine of successful offensives, playing a critical role in protecting the quarterback and opening up running lanes. The past five drafts, general managers have taken 20 offensive tackles in the first round, averaging 13.1 starts per year.
