Within seconds it becomes clear the silhouette is a black cat who sticks its head out of the broken window. Veterinarians and biologists say cats are able to survive falls from a great height due to physics, evolutionary biology, and physiology. Experts say cats have a relatively large surface area in proportion to their weight which reduces the force at which they hit the ground.
