Fellow passengers, including an off-duty police officer, a doctor and a nurse managed to save his life by administering first aid. Before the attack, Brown, 38, threatened a support worker at the hostel he was living in then headed to the train station. Southwark crown court heard Brown had been suffering a psychotic episode and believed that by stabbing Ali he would “save humanity” and exorcise a Muslim demon haunting him. Brown, of Brockley Rise, south-east London, appeared via video link from Broadmoor hospital during the hearing.
