Independent Media Vital for Genuine Democracy - PM Abiy AhmedOctober 18, 2018 - Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said Ethiopia needs what he called ‘Synergic Media’ to promote a genuine democracy. He called the desired media the Guide Dog Media, coupled with Watchdog Media. The Prime Minister said media outlets should regulate and evaluate the performance of the planned activities of the government. During much of the EPRDF rule, the Ethiopian private media had been the subject of sustained assualt for many years. As part of all-round reforms, the government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has taken many steps to liberalize media policies in Ethiopia.
