India’s official death toll from the coronavirus topped 400,000 on Friday, though experts say the actual number of dead could have reached one million or even higher, with a possible third wave of infections looming. Overnight, the country recorded 853 deaths, taking the toll past the 400,000 mark, according to data from health ministry. India administered an average of 3.5 million doses a day this week, compared with 6.6 million doses last week. Last month, Serum said it planned to increase monthly production to nearly 100 million doses from July. Bharat Biotech now estimates it will make 23 million doses a month.
