India underprepared for GST rollout: Chidambaram tells India Today

With only hours to go before the GST comes into being, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram has said that the country is underprepared for the tax reform. GST was an idea conceived by the UPA government and more than the spadework for it was done by it until 2014, said former Finance Minister P Chidambaram. Congress is boycotting the GST launch as it is upset over the fact that BJP has walked away for the tax reform with all credit. When asked how ready are we for the launch of the GST, Chidambaram said, "Overall, the country is underprepared. But the glitches will surface when the GST comes into force."
