Indian Police Arrest Sikh Separatist Leader Who Called for Independent Homeland


Jasbir Singh Rodde, a Sikh religious leader, said that Singh surrendered himself to the police after offering his morning prayers at a local Sikh shrine. Protesters, most of them Sikhs from Punjab state, camped on the outskirts of New Delhi through a harsh winter and the worst period of the COVID-19 pandemic. Countries with a large Sikh diaspora, such as Canada, the US and the UK, still house supporters of the Khalistan movement. The supporters of the Khalistan movement also vandalised the Indian consulate in San Francisco. Although the supporters of the Khalistan movement are still active, their activities are met with increasingly stern responses from the Indian government.
