Recently, Coimbatore and Esslingen (Germany) became twin cities and some of the industries and educational institutions here already have tie-ups with Esslingen. Coimbatore, Kochi and Bhubaneswar are three cities that Germany is looking at involving with under the Smart Cities project. In the twin city initiative, it can be taken forward so that the local industries here benefit. Since Coimbatore is known globally for its strong manufacturing capabilities, when countries look at some of the tier-two cities for strengthening co-operation, Coimbatore becomes a choice, he said. Countries look at INVESTINGin cityCoimbatore’s industries have trade and industrial co-operation with several countries for years and that is bringing focus on the city for various other initiatives too now.
