JI chief Sirajul Haq made the announcement of the nationwide strike during a news conference in Lahore on Friday as a means to protest against the oppressive electricity bills. After the nationwide strike, the organisation would consult other stakeholders to determine their next strategy. Additionally, Chaudhary demanded the abolition of all taxes incorporated in electricity bills and the discontinuation of the provision of 340 million free electricity units to government employees.
