Pope Francis is attending World Youth Day in Panama, an international gathering of young people which was begun by Pope St John Paul II in 1985. Ordinarily held sometime in the summer months, in 2019 it will take place January 22 to 27, to avoid Panama’s rainy season. In 2019, the theme for World Youth Day is Mary’s fiat from the Gospel of Luke: "I am the servant of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word"
