(CNN) During a recent daring Martian flight by the Ingenuity helicopter July 5, the chopper acted like an aerial scout for the Perseverance rover as it sailed over rough but intriguing terrain. Now, photos taken during the 2,051-foot-long flight are helping the Perseverance science team develop the rover's exploration plan. The Ingenuity helicopter is flying in parallel with the Perseverance rover as it drives on Mars -- as shown by the rover tracks captured by the chopper's camera on July 5. The Ingenuity helicopter spotted this location on Mars, nicknamed "Raised Ridges," during its ninth flight, on July 5. This dune field is full of hazards for the Perseverance rover.
