My friend, a young woman, approached them and asked them to put out their cigarettes immediately. I am also inspired by Ain Husniza Saiful Nizam, who rightly called out her male teacher for joking about rape during class. This is the same country where our male parliamentarians can make unpardonable sexist and sexually offensive remarks against their female colleagues. Ain reminded me of my friend, and both have inspired me to reflect on having the courage to do the right thing. We need to inculcate gender sensitivity in our children so that they will not tolerate or normalise any jokes about rape, rape apologia or gender discrimination.
