The battle to win the brains of the upcoming autonomous vehicles has become so competitive that companies have turned to acquisitions to enhance their IP. The EyeQ5 will be the Mobileye’s first product aimed at fully autonomous vehicles, which are classified as SAE automation levels 4 and 5. Intel also indicated that the EyeQ5 is aimed at what will be the leading-edge manufacturing process at that time, projected to be 7nm. So, the SoCs capable of supporting SAE automation levels 4 and 5 in 2018 will be the first solution for the first wave of autonomous vehicles in the 2020 timeframe.
