This anticipated growth is largely attributed to the accelerated rollout of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), alongside ongoing regional trade reforms. The outlook, based on an optimistic scenario, assumes continued political stability, stronger regional integration, and targeted competitiveness improvements. It also factors in a more stable global trade environment, supported by easing geopolitical tensions, improved supply chains, and renewed confidence in multilateral trade systems. In 2026, intra-African trade is expected to account for about 16% of the continent’s total trade, slightly higher than the recent average of 15%. To fully realize these opportunities, sustained efforts are needed in strengthening regional integration, enhancing governance frameworks, and investing in critical infrastructure.
