TEHRAN, Iran - Iran’s Judiciary said it sentenced a prominent human rights lawyer to seven years in prison after she defended protesters against the Islamic Republic’s mandatory headscarves for women. On Wednesday, March 6, 2019, the New York-based Center for Human Rights in Iran, said Sotoudeh, a prominent human rights lawyer in Iran who defended women protesting against the Islamic Republic's mandatory headscarf, has been convicted and faces years in prison. Last week, an Iranian activist group that’s based abroad reported that Sotoudeh was convicted. The headscarf, or hijab, is mandatory for all women in Iran.
