A crowd of hardline religious students and regime supporters chanted “Death to England” and called for the expulsion of Rob Macaire, the ambassador. On Saturday Mr Macaire was detained in Tehran for half an hour after he left a vigil in memory of the 176 people killed on board a Ukrainian airliner shot down by Iran last week.
