Ireland was hosting a national event where straight people completed a form on whether I should have rights. In the weeks, months and years that followed, I would be expected to thank those who ticked the ‘nice’ box. I don’t think our conversation focused especially on gay stuff, although it undoubtedly came up. Panti’s Noble Call from that time remains one of the Yes campaign’s most enduring works of rhetoric. But gay stuff gets me — gay books, gay movies, Panti’s very gay speech.
