Ireland ‘will do well’ out of €5 billion Brexit fund, says Coveney

Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney has said he believes Ireland “will do well” from the EU compensation fund to cushion the economic disruption from Brexit. “Irish interests have been factored into the solutions that have been agreed. Mr O’Sullivan expressed concern that France was seeking the lion’s share of the €5 billion compensation fund and warned about the future access of the Irish fleet to UK waters. He also expressed concern that French and other fleets might move into Irish fishing waters. The Brexit Adjustment Reserve was agreed in a landmark EU budget deal this summer to help the countries hardest hit by Brexit, and with Ireland’s growth forecast to be the worst affected in the bloc, the Government hoped to get the lion’s share.
