Eurostat said that Ireland’s ratio for last year was 23.5 per cent, with the next lowest score being Romania with 25.8 per cent. In contrast, France and Belgium had the highest ratios of 48.4 per cent and 47.3 per cent respectively. Ireland’s tax take on imports and production, the sector that makes up the largest part of tax revenue in the EU, was the lowest of all member countries, at only 8.5 per cent. However, several experts have suggested that even including Ireland on such a list is of little value, given that GDP is a “meaningless” statistic…
