Many argue this will lessen the usefulness of what they imagine is our one-trick pony of using low tax to attract inward investment. Indeed, publications, such as The Economist, have specifically mentioned Ireland in no fewer than four articles on this subject in the last month. Will Ireland need to quickly adapt to address these new realities? Many of these issues, new to Ireland, have long been a part of older urbanised societies — especially in Europe. Ireland is no longer the low-tax, one-trick pony that many international commentators wrongly assume to be the source of our success.
