We need to be a society that is ready to protect the sacrosanct nature of the marital institution from slipping farther down the moral standards. I do not downplay the role the institution of the church plays in the society, but when is the thin line between staying, fighting and walking away crossed? Most couples spend their marital years ‘making their marriage work’ rather than enjoying the company of each other. I hold the belief that as a respectable social institution with respectable roles the church should reconsider its approach to marital counselling, especially when it comes to dealing with violent situations. So many factors may be called to question on the issue of marital violence such as individual predispositions and also by extension level of education and independence.
