Jean Sinzdak, associate director at Rutgers University Center for American Women and Politics, said she believes Ocasio-Cortez’s assessment of the double standard is correct. “For women in politics, it is an almost universal experience that they are held to a higher standard and need to work harder to be taken seriously. Ocasio-Cortez and many of the incoming freshmen are not playing the usual Washington game — and she shouldn’t.
