People would take small packets of it wrapped in cloth and place it under their pillow to cure minor ailments such as toothache. If they had rubbed it on their teeth instead, it might have worked even better. A new study has suggested that the “sacred clay” of Boho, a site once occupied by druids, contains a bacterium that can tackle many of the “superbugs” resistant to conventional antibiotics. Gerry Quinn, who spent his childhood summers in Boho, near Enniskillen, said that he had known about the alkaline soil and its healing effects.
