Ivanka Trump has claimed that for half of American households child care is the largest expense. "So it’s an enormous problem and it's one my father is committed to tackling" The high cost of child care has been well documented. Child Care Aware, a trade and advocacy group, found that it cost on average over $17,000 a year for infant day care in Massachusetts. But even that's not the correct economists' answer. So it depends--if we look at child care costs Ivanka is probably wrong, if at the costs of caring for children, probably right, it's the biggest expense for most.
