more-inThe Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers’ Association (JNUTA) has called for the resignation of Vice-Chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar based on the conclusions of a five-day public hearing in which it presented a “chargesheet” against him. An eminent panel of jurists had for five days listened to charges levelled against the V-C and had held him “guilty” of “destroying institutional norms, conventions and the ethos and culture of functioning” for which JNU is globally acclaimed, said JNUTA. It added that the jury have held the V-C’s actions in gross violation of the duties and responsibilities vested in the office of the V-C by the JNU Act. In a letter to the V-C that the JNUTA made public on Tuesday, it wrote “As a consequence of the verdict, the JNUTA finds that you have forfeited your right to continue as the V-C. It is therefore expected that you shall find it within yoursef to immediately resign from the position of the JNU V-C.”
