The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) will spend at least Sh3.3 million on allowances for its commissioners camping in The Hague to determine who the next Chief Justice will be. But the choice of the retreat venue means each commissioner will earn a daily allowance of $747 (Sh74,700) for every day they will be in the Netherlands. The panel is expected back in the country on Thursday, meaning every one of them will make about $3,735 (Sh373,500) from the trip. The entourage includes Court of Appeal Judge Mohammed Warsame, High Court Judge Aggrey Muchelule, magistrate Emily Ominde, Attorney-General Prof Githu Muigai, Public Service Commission chairperson Prof Margaret Kobia, Prof Tom Ojienda, Ms Winnie Guchu, Ms Mercy Ndeche and Mr Kipng’etich Bett.
