OTTAWA—NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is expected to address a simmering controversy in the party’s federal caucus on Thursday, after Saskatchewan MP Erin Weir alleged an unnamed staff member accused him of harassment because of his views on carbon pricing. Singh called for a third-party investigation in February, after Quebec MP Christine Moore emailed the NDP caucus with unspecified allegations that Weir harassed women, including party employees. The party leader suspended Weir from his caucus duties, while Weir denied knowledge of the complaints. Weir responded with his own statement, alleging the complainant is a staff member from former NDP leader Thomas Mulcair’s office, and that she was referring to an incident at a 2016 convention in Saskatchewan. He alleged the complaint against him “arises from the former federal leader’s staff asserting their authority to shut down a debate they deemed contentious.”
