Japan-Sri Lanka to enhance maritime and economic cooperation


Japan and Sri Lanka agreed to continue concerned efforts to enhance maritime cooperation and economic cooperation, the Foreign Ministry said. The two countries have also decided to review economic cooperation and further strengthen cooperation in areas of contemporary relevance. This was discussed at the second round of the Sri Lanka-Japan Policy Dialogue which was held virtually yesterday at the level of senior officials of the two Ministries of External Affairs. Recognizing the importance of a rule-based maritime order in the Indian Ocean, the two sides decided to continue their concerted efforts to enhance maritime cooperation and mutual cooperation across multilateral platforms. Sri Lankan Ambassador to Tokyo Sanjeev Gunasekara, senior officials from the two Ministries of External Affairs, the Embassy of Japan in Colombo and the Commerce Department of Sri Lanka also participated in the discussions.
