Japan keeps CPTPP bid at the foreMr Somkid says Japan is committed to using Thailand as a production base. Mr Shigeru said Japan is willing to support Thailand's membership in the pact. In July 2018, during a visit by Mr Somkid to Tokyo, Japan agreed to support Thailand becoming a member of the CPTPP. Mr Somkid told Mr Shigeru the cabinet is expected to decide by April or May on whether Thailand will join the CPTPP. The CPTPP is a trade agreement with Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.
