Japanese report says humans will talk to pets via virtual reality

Within 20 years, people could be using virtual reality and augmented reality to 'talk' with their pets, and taste other people's food without actually eating anything. According to the report, titled 'White Paper on Science and Technology,' VR and AR-driven devices will act as interpreters or virtual aids, enabling a wide range of new interactions, such as making it possible for humans to 'talk' directly to their pets. 'We incorporated experts’ opinions into the predictions,' a ministry official said in a prepared statement. Beyond pet communications and appetizer sampling, the Ministry's latest paper also predicts major changes in manufacturing and farming, driven by automation. The paper also predicts that construction industry will become more heavily automated, with robots completing many of the basic tasks of carpenters or construction workers.
