Jimmy Lai says his arrest under Hong Kong's national security law is a 'symbolic exercise'

Hong Kong (CNN Business) Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai has called his arrest a "symbolic exercise" by local authorities to demonstrate that the sweeping national security law imposed by Beijing last month has "teeth." Under the national security law this could be interpreted as collusion with a foreign force. At least two dozen people have been arrested on a variety of charges including suspicion of violating the national security law, including one of Lai's sons. Hong Kong media tycoon and pro-democracy supporter Jimmy Lai attends a rally near the government headquarters in Hong Kong on September 28, 2014. But since the national security law came into effect, there have been no mass marches against the wide-ranging legislation.
