JEMPOL: A 21-year-old man from Bahau in search of a job has been cheated of almost RM100,000 in an online scam here. Supt Hoo said apart from using his savings, the victim had also borrowed RM25,000 from his sister to pay for the purchases. “After having made purchases over a three-day period, the victim was told that he would receive a total of RM147,433. “However, the so-called customer service agent then told him that he would have to pay a RM20,000 processing fee,” he added. Supt Hoo said preliminary investigations revealed that the three accounts into which the victim had earlier banked the money into were also used for other online scams.
