Sheffield United have signed Rangers midfielder Joe Rothwell for an undisclosed fee on an 18-month deal and Sunderland defender Leo Hjelde on loan for the rest of the season. Rothwell, 31, joined Rangers in the summer from Bournemouth but has featured just once since October. Hjelde, 22, has not played competitively since coming on as a sub in the Black Cats win over the Blades in last May's Championship play-off final. United, who have also signed former England midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City, are 17th, 11 points off the top six and seven points clear of the bottom three.
