Junior golf is booming in Ireland and that was evident at Killymoon recently as Ballyhaunis Golf Club’s John William Burke claimed the Gary Player Trophy following his victory in the Flogas Irish Junior Open Summer Tour. John William shot a gross two-over 74 at Kilkea Castle, a four-under 64 at Moyvalley, a three-under 66 at Lough Erne and three-over 76 at Killymoon en route to his victories. This season, more than 1,500 competitors aged five to 18 travelled all across Ireland to compete in Flogas Irish Junior Open Tour events at many of Ireland’s top golf courses. The tour has attracted entries from 12,000 golfers and raised €11,650 for charity since it began in 2014. “It’s been great to get back to organising golf events for the Juniors and putting a smile back on their faces during these difficult times,” said founder Michael Gallagher from MG Pro Golf.
