Boris Johnson has criticised British prime minister Theresa May’s Brexit strategy as the Tory conference begins, branding the proposals “deranged” and “preposterous”, while also supporting the building of a bridge between Britain and Ireland. “What we need to do is build a bridge between our islands. But nobody should be in any doubt.”The Tory gathering in Birmingham has been marked by a deepening rift over Brexit policy. Mr Lewis said the “technical issue” had been resolved but “we are investigating the issue further and apologise for any concern caused”.
