The pair in question in the Italian capital are Chris Smalling and Henrikh Mkhitaryan who both played under Mourinho at Manchester United during his spell in charge from 2016-18. How the pair will fare under Mourinho in Italy is yet to be seen, with Smalling impressing in his first season with Roma but tailing off in the last campaign. He made just 13 Serie A starts last season compared to 29 in the previous campaign and will need to convince Mourinho again of his talents. Mourinho made his first signing as Roma boss this week, bringing in goalkeeper Rui Patricio from Wolves for a fee of just under £10m.
