Josh Taylor going up against a man fighting for a cause
A striking feature of the build-up to tomorrow night’s light-welterweight unification bout between Scotland’s Josh Taylor and José Ramírez in Las Vegas is the complete absence of the trash talk which prefaces so many major showdowns. No gratuitous insults, no jibes at the quality of the opposition either man has faced or allegations that they lack courage. Instead, mutual respect between opponents, who clearly understand that the only place to prove their superiority is in the ring, has been evident. Ramírez (26 wins, 0 defeats) and Taylor (17-0) are both undefeated and, as they say in Vegas, somebody’s O has got to go.
