Some of Flynn’s backers had publicly speculated in recent weeks that Sullivan would adopt their belief that FBI agents had tricked the retired general into lying and would spare Flynn from any punishment. Events turned out dramatically otherwise, as Sullivan asked both Flynn and his attorney to publicly acknowledge that he had lied, that he was aware that lying to the FBI was illegal and that he had pleaded guilty because he was guilty.
