Around 1,000 junior doctors from nine government medical colleges in Bihar on Wednesday (December 23) went on an indefinite strike to demand a raise in their monthly stipend. Though the medical services were affected in the state, the junior doctors kept those involved in COVID-19 duty out of the strike. These junior doctors are primarily postgraduate medical students and MBBS interns. Some of the hospitals affected by the strike of junior doctors are Sri Krishna Medical College Hospital in Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga Medical College Hospital in Darbhanga, Vardhaman Institute of Medical Sciences at Pawapuri in the Nalanda district, among others. Junior doctors at the autonomous medical institutions like the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Patna did not join the strike.
