Public Health England says that two people who had received both jabs died after contracting the variant. Last night 12 people had died after 5,599 known infections of the variant, suggesting that vaccines are proving effective. Just three per cent of infections were among people who had been fully vaccinated, officials said. Bolton, Blackburn with Darwen and Rossendale have the highest infection rates in the country, Public Health England data shows.
