When I step back and look at the full picture; return production, field position, offensive usage, and cap impact, I can’t make the case that Turpin’s contract is paying off for the Cowboys. On kick returns, the league average is 26.41 yards per return. If Turpin was compensating his average return production with real offensive value, the contract conversations would be different. Turpin’s Contract Magnifies the ProblemThe production might be easier to stomach if the cap hits weren’t going up. Right now, I know the Cowboys are paying for speed and reputation, not production.
