Karnataka to roll out automated land mutation system Statewide

In a major administrative change aimed at reducing delays and reducing the scope for official discretion in land records, the Karnataka Revenue Department has begun rolling out an automated mutation system across the State. Currently, mutations linked to registrable documents such as sale deeds and gift deeds require a seven-day notice, while non-registrable cases follow a 15-day notice window. Under the new automated system, the physical approval or thumb impression of the revenue inspector will no longer be mandatory. For registrable transactions, the system will grant approval automatically on the night of the eighth day, while non-registrable mutations will be approved on the sixteenth night. Based on the pilot’s outcome, the department plans to extend the system across Karnataka.
