Kenya frees 2 Ugandan soldiers held in Busia

The release of the two soldiers attached to Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) follows hours of closed-door bilateral meeting between security officers from the two countries at the police station. Busia County Commissioner Jacob Narengo and Uganda Resident District Commissioner Hussein Matanda who received the officers on behalf of Ugandan government led the talks that hastened their release. “This is a crime committed by individual officers and not aggression from Ugandan government. Mr Matanda did not rule out an extortion mission gone wrong and admitted the existence of fish cartels.
