Kenyan journalist Yassin Juma has been released by an Ethiopian court on bail. The court ordered his release after police failed to present evidence to prove he committed a crime according to their defence team. Juma was reportedly working for an Ethiopian opposition leader when he was arrested last month on accusations of incitement and involvement in violence. He was arrested alongside Ethiopia’s Oromia Media Network journalist Melese Diribsa and three other individuals following the killing of Oromo musician Hachalu Hundessa. Reports indicate that Yassin Juma was arrested because of his close relationship with the controversial musician, one of few people who openly criticised Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government.
