Kerry the latest to oppose extension to inter-county season

Kerry club delegates fully endorsed county secretary Peter Twiss and the executive’s opposition to extending the inter-county season by two weeks at this month’s county committee meeting. Twiss outlined to delegates that Kerry had nothing in principle against the two-week extension but the knock-on effect it would have on the Kerry club and county championships was a price clubs should not be asked to pay. The secretary said that 16 weekends are needed to play off the club championships in Kerry to have winners ready to take part in the Munster club championships. The question is, and we have to raise this at Congress, we need 16 weekends to play our county championships, our club championships. Some counties run a county championship that doesn’t really need 16 weekends.
